Pharmaceutical Industrial Policy Committee Survey on the Challenges Faced by Healthcare Professionals in Rare Diseases

Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) has conducted the “Survey on the Challenges Faced by Healthcare Professionals in Rare Diseases” in collaboration with Initiative on Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases (IRUD), Rare Disease Consortium Japan (RDCJ), and EY Strategy and Consulting Co., Ltd. (for Planning and Administrative Support).

The survey consists of both two results: quantitative web survey (a) and qualitative interview (b). It also identifies issues in the five areas of rare diseases from the perspectives of healthcare professionals (1. Basic and applied research, 2. Development and clinical trials, 3. Diagnosis, 4. Treatment and prognosis management, and 5. Disease awareness), and outlines the expectations of various stakeholders (pharmaceutical industry, academic societies, patient advocacy groups, and government) with regard to the challenges and the direction of resolutions to these issues.
